Workers in Retail Trade and Selected Service Jobs by Gender and Skill, 1985 to 2007

"The decline in manufacturing jobs has not meant that fewer jobs are available for less-skilled workers; rather it has meant that different jobs are available. For instance, figure 3.5 shows the share of workers in retail trade and selected service jobs...The share of less-educated men in these jobs grew from 23.9 percent to 27.7 percent between 1985 and 2007, and the share of less-educated women from 35.8 percent to 39.6 percent."—p. 72, Changing Poverty, Changing Policies
