The Capital Region of upstate New York has numerous Chinese-owned businesses, primarily grocery stores and restaurants. However, little is known about how working conditions there have changed recently as anti-immigrant rhetoric and anti-Asian violence have increased. Sociologist Joanna Dreby will investigate how working conditions in Chinese-owned restaurants and grocery stores have changed over the past five years. She will conduct interviews with Chinese and Spanish-speaking workers for her study.
