Awarded Scholars:
María G. Rendón, University of California, Irvine
Project Date:
Jun 2024
Award Amount:
$72,000

Theoretical frameworks used to explain Latinos’ incorporation process into the United States are often based in a Black-White model of race and ultimately fail to capture the distinct racialized history of Latinos in the U.S. Sociologist María Rendón will examine the Mexican incorporation process across generations and immigration cohorts in Long Beach, CA including their experiences of racial exclusion and resistance. She will conduct interviews and archival research for her study.
