Percentage of U. S. Population, Age 25 to 64, with High School Diploma and Bachelors Degree, by Survey Year and Sex, 1962 - Present

Based on data from the Current Population Survey, the percentage of the US population (age 25 to 60) with at least a High School Diploma, increased from a little more than 50% in the early 1960s to 90% overall, with the rate for women being slightly higher than that of men. For Bachelor’s degrees, the percentage has approximately tripled since the early 1960s. The percentage with a BA degree is a little more than 30%, with women having a slightly higher percentage than men.
