The following pages are the outcome of twenty-five years of life and experience in the mountain country of the South, taken on by John C. Campbell. From his time as a teacher in a remote section of the mountins, until the time of his death, when he was Secretary of the Southern Highland Division of the Russell Sage Foundation, he was continuously engaged int he service of the Highland people.
