This grant is co-funded by The Policy Academies.
Research on exonerees’ lives after wrongful conviction has primarily focused on the social and psychological challenges exonerees face, which only scratch the surface of their experiences. Wrongfully convicted and exonerated people must also interact with institutions and organizations that are key to accessing post-incarceration resources that they need after prison. Doctoral student in sociology Reyna Hernandez will explore the experiences of exonerees as they access reentry resources and reparations after wrongful conviction. She will conduct participant observation, interviews, and content analysis for her study.
