Event: RSF President Sheldon Danziger to Discuss Future of the Social Safety Net

On Monday, April 3, RSF president Sheldon Danziger will participate in a CUNY Graduate Center panel discussion on the future of the social safety net under the Trump administration. The panel will be moderated by Felicia Wong, president and CEO of the Roosevelt Institute, and will include Mary T. Bassett (New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene), Janet Gornick (CUNY Graduate Center), and Michael R. Strain (American Enterprise Institute).

President Trump took office pledging to “repeal and replace” the Affordable Care Act and work with GOP leaders in Congress to privatize or dismantle other social programs. While the repeal of the Affordable Care Act failed in Congress, what other parts of the U.S. safety net are in danger? The panelists will discuss what is likely to happen in the next four years, provide insights into the reforms that they would like to see, and explain why these programs matter.

The discussion is free and open to the public with registration and will take place at 6:30pm in the Proshansky Auditorium at the CUNY Graduate Center. The event will also be livestreamed.

Register to attend the talk or access the livestream.
