Elements of Latinidad: Conceptualizing and Measuring Within-Group Status and its Impact on Latino Politics
Awarded External Scholars
Project Date:
Summary
After each election cycle, the news reports shock and surprise that Latinos, a large and influential voting bloc, are increasingly voting red—breaking an unspoken expectation of allegiance to the Democratic party. However, little research explores the nuances of the ideological and partisan beliefs held by Latinos. Doctoral student in political science Laura Uribe will examine how perceived status among other Latinos shapes political attitudes, behaviors, and ideologies. She will conduct a nationally representative survey experiment for her study.
