Summary
This grant is co-funded by the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research.
Job loss due to mass layoffs have been shown to have lasting negative effects on future income, employment, health, and even mortality. Research on crime has shown that a reduction in income and future employment opportunities can drive individuals to engage in criminal activity. Doctoral student in economics Duan Zhang will examine the impact of job loss on criminal behavior. She will analyze data from the Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics dataset, data from the Criminal Justice Administrative Records System, and several other data sources for her study.
