Brighter Nights, Safer Communities? Assessing A City-Wide Street Lighting Intervention

Evidence suggests that street lighting reduces crime. However, there is limited research on its effects on public safety and law enforcement. Criminologists David Mitre Becerril and Aleksei Knorre will measure the effect of a city-wide LED streetlight retrofitting intervention in New Orleans on public safety. They will analyze a number of data sources, including streetlight retrofit data, crime data, 911 emergency call data, and survey data for their study.
