Jude Joffe-Block

Jude Joffe-Block, an independent journalist, is co-authoring a book that explores how Arizona came to be bitterly divided over immigration in the mid 2000s, anticipating the nation's current polarization. The book chronicles how former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio transformed into a zealous immigration enforcer, how a grassroots movement advocating for Latino and immigrant rights organized in the streets and in the courts to stop Arpaio’s unconstitutional tactics, and how the fight over immigration and civil rights in Arizona became a national battle under Trump. She is co-authoring the book with Terry Greene Sterling, a Writer-in-Residence and Affiliated Faculty at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University.
