California Dreaming: Coming of Age in America's Other Heartland
This grant is co-funded with The Policy Academies.
Rural social scientists have closely detailed the processes that reproduce social and economic inequality in rural America. However, we have yet to understand how some rural communities manage to facilitate high rates of upward mobility for low-income children of color. Doctoral student in sociology Trevor Auldridge-Reveles will examine the experiences of adolescents living in Dixon, California, one of the most upwardly mobile, racially diverse, rural communities in America. He will conduct in-depth interviews and participant observation for his study.
