Jason Brent

Jason Brent will work on a book examining the now largely forgotten effort at mass economic education to improve American’s understanding of the U.S. economy by the American Economic Association (AEA) in the 1960s. Brent will work on three chapters covering the AEA’s review of textbooks during political pressure campaigns from businesses, the development of a national economics curriculum, and The American Economy, an educational television series, produced with the help of the AEA, that hosted a rotating cast of Nobel Laureates, business and union leaders, and even Presidents Kennedy and Eisenhower, explaining how they saw key elements of the nation’s economy and the challenges facing the nation.
