Summary
The Bay Area Thriving Families project is a partnership between NYU’s Housing Solutions Lab and homeless service providers in San Francisco that evaluates the effectiveness of unconditional direct cash payments as a supplement to rapid rehousing (RRH) services. A quantitative evaluation assesses the impact of cash payments on returns to homelessness, housing stability, housing, neighborhood quality, and rent burden using administrative data and surveys. Public policy experts Ingrid Ellen, Martha Galvez, and James Reisinger will conduct interviews to examine the experiences of families receiving these unconditional direct cash payments and illuminate the mechanisms through which the cash transfers affect housing and other outcomes.
