Summary
Recent studies on intergenerational mobility in earnings indicate that at least half of the gap in incomes between two families is closed by the next generation. However, the Black-White income gap has remained consistent overtime—measuring 42-percent in 1972 and 41-percent in 2018. Economists Jesse Rothstein and David Card will examine the role of geographic location on upward (or downward) mobility. They will analyze data from the Longitudinal Employer Household Dynamics program for their study.
