Summary

Non-shooting gun incidents in public schools, such as possession of a firearm, robbery with a firearm, and threats with a firearm, are not recorded in national databases and often go unreported in the media. As a result, little is known about their impacts on students. Economist Sarah Komisarow will investigate the impacts of non-shooting gun incidents in high school on educational outcomes including graduation rates, grade point average, absences, and suspensions. She will analyze data from the North Carolina Education Research Data Center for her study as well as local news coverage and personnel data from school payroll records for her study.
