Navigating Pathways to Adulthood in an Era of Precarity: Latino Young Adults on the Community College Pathway
Awarded External Scholars
Project Date:
Summary
Since the 1970s, Latino college enrollment has surged nationally and over a third of these entrants begin in community colleges. California has one of the largest Latino populations as well as one of the largest community college systems in the nation. Open enrollment policies and expansive tuition waiver programs have made college attendance a key part of the transition to adulthood for many Latinos. Doctoral student in sociology Jose Gutierrez will examine how increased access to higher education has shaped the transition to adulthood for Latinos. He will conduct interviews for his study.
