Summary

Debates over immigration policy are becoming increasingly contested, with recent political scrutiny on Temporary Protected Status (TPS). However, little social science research has been conducted on the creation, proliferation, and advocacy around liminal legal statuses such as TPS. Doctoral student in sociology Neha Lund will examine how advocates make claims for expanding TPS protections, build coalitions, and legally advocate for immigrants with TPS status. She will conduct archival and media analysis, participant observation, and in-depth interviews for her study.
