Symposium on Race Relations and Economic Inequality

The year 2018 will mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of W. E. B. Du Bois and the 50th anniversary of the death of Martin Luther King, Jr. Both Du Bois and King asserted that solving racial inequalities—economic, social, and political—would lead to a greater, stronger America. Sociologist Obie Clayton will organize a two-day symposium on February 22-23, 2018, at Clark Atlanta University to examine race relations and social inequality. Twenty scholars will present papers on key issues raised by Du Bois and King, including health, mass incarceration, housing discrimination, race relations, and education.  Phylon, the Clark Atlanta University Review of Race and Culture, founded in 1940 by Du Bois, will provide participants an opportunity to submit their original work for inclusion in a special issue.
