Bringing it Home: Police-Perpetrated Gender Violence and Legal Estrangement in Chicago
Awarded External Scholars
Project Date:
Summary
Researchers have extensively documented patterns of on- and off-duty gender-based violence (GBV) by the police. However, we know little about its social ramifications. Doctoral student in sociology Anna Fox will explore how individual experiences with police GBV, exposure to broad patterns of police GBV, and structural injustice in institutional reactions to police GBV affect civilian relationships with the police. She will conduct interviews and analyze data from Chicago’s Civilian Office of Police Accountability for her study.
