College Choice in the Wake of Dobbs: The Effect of State Abortion Bans on Women's Migration to College
Awarded External Scholars
Project Date:
Summary
Until recently, prospective college students made their application and enrollment decisions based primarily on school-level characteristics such as cost, quality, and distance. However, states’ reproductive rights laws have become a new factor for applicants to consider after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization in June 2022. Doctoral student in education Samantha Kane will examine the impact of state abortion bans on where prospective female college students choose to apply to college. She will analyze college application and SAT/ACT score data via the Common App platform for her study.
