The Context and Life Course of Racial/Ethnic Identities Among Multi-Racial Americans
Since the year 2000, individuals have been allowed to report more than one race on the decennial census. While racial and ethnic identification among those with multiple identities can vary over time and across contexts, studies of changes in racial and ethnic identification have been limited by data availability. Social demographers Matthew Hall and Jiwon Lee will examine the development of racial and ethnic identities among multi-racial Americans from infancy to young adulthood. They analyze data from the 2000, 2010, and 2020 decennial censuses as well as Social Security Administration records for their study.
