Awarded External Scholars
Project Date:
Summary
In the 1990s, the federal government launched the Housing Opportunities for People Everywhere (HOPE VI) programs, which aimed to transform public housing and revitalize surrounding neighborhoods. However, the program has been criticized for gentrifying distressed neighborhoods and displacing incumbent minorities and poor residents. Doctoral student in public policy Lizhong Liu will examine the effects of HOPE VI Revitalization programs on housing markets and neighborhood demographics. She will analyze administrative data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and Census data for her study.
