Growing Up in Court: The Impact of Juvenile Dockets on Children Facing Deportation in Immigration Court
In the last decade, more than a third of immigrants facing deportation in immigration court have been children under the age of 18. Immigration courts have created specialized “juvenile dockets” for children without parents or guardians, yet no systemic nationwide study has evaluated how these dockets impact experiences and outcomes for children in court. Sociologist Susan B. Long and legal scholar Laila Hlaas will examine the impact of Juvenile Dockets on the experiences of unaccompanied minor children facing deportation in immigration court. They will analyze court records for their study.
