Justice for Janitors, the “New South,” and the Future of Labor
Over the last forty years, declining union membership has contributed to wage stagnation. At the same time, migration has shifted away from traditional union strongholds to the more labor-hostile South. Political scientist Erica Dobbs will examine unionization efforts in the South focusing on the Justice for Janitors campaigns. She will compile two decades of data on unfair labor practice charges and will interview union staff, workers, and community partners for her study.
