Anne E. Preston

Anne E. Preston, associate professor at the W. Averell Harriman School for Management and Policy, State University of New York at Stony Brook, explored the reasons for the dearth of women in professional scientific and engineering careers. Even among the relatively few women who receive scientific educations, many eventually cut short their careers. Preston analyzed the employment experiences of men and women in the sciences to determine whether the factors motivating occupational success or exit vary by gender. She also explored how women's scientific careers are affected by marriage and parenthood, and whether educational interventions designed to engage young women in science are achieving their goals.
