Summary
This grant is funded in part by the Spencer Foundation and the Hewlett Foundation.
The 2023 Supreme Court decision in the Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA) cases banned race-conscious admissions at colleges and universities. At the same time, diversity-related initiatives have been under attack by state legislatures across the country. Sociologists Byungkyu Lee, Maria Abascal, and Tiffany Huang will examine how colleges and universities communicate their commitment to diversity to prospective students and faculty in the wake of the 2023 SFFA decisions as well as how schools’ messaging has changed over time. They will analyze data from the Princeton Review’s Best Colleges Guides for their study.
