Dissemination and Publications
Acknowledgement
RSF’s support should be acknowledged in the following way on all grant outputs: “This work has been supported (in part) by Grant [Reference Number] from the Russell Sage Foundation. Any opinions expressed are those of the principal investigator(s) alone and should not be construed as representing the opinions of the Foundation.
Articles
The final narrative report asks the Principal Investigators for the DOIs of any published articles (including working papers, reports, and book chapters) have resulted from the grant. When articles are published after the end of a grant, the PIs should inform RSF about the publication via email.
Data Sets
Publishing data and all associated materials from research projects is valuable because it allows others to examine the robustness of reported results and facilitates fuller re-use of collected data in general. As a condition for providing substantial support for new data collection, RSF requires that the investigators make their data sets publicly available to the social science research community. Investigators must include as part of their proposal a plan for public release of the data and documentation. RSF will consider exceptions for proprietary data and qualitative data.
In the final narrative report, RSF will ask Principal Investigators for an update on their data release plan. If a dataset was produced (excluding those granted an exemption), RSF will create an additional reporting
Books
RSF reserves the right to publish any book-length manuscript that results from Grant activities (each, a “Manuscript”). The Principal Investigator(s) cannot to enter into negotiations for publication or co-publication with any other publisher for any Manuscript without the explicit prior written approval of RSF. Upon completion of a Manuscript, the Principal Investigator(s) will notify RSF and provide a copy of the Manuscript to RSF in a format that RSF requests. RSF will review the Manuscript and make an initial decision about publication within four months after the submission. If RSF determines that it will publish the Manuscript, the Principal Investigator(s) will assign to RSF the copyright to the Manuscript and RSF will publish the Manuscript on terms described in RSF’s publishing agreement, which is available for review. If RSF does not accept the Manuscript for publication, then the Principal Investigator(s) will be free to enter into negotiations with other publishers concerning the Manuscript.
