Event: Authors of RSF Book Cradle to Kindergarten to Participate in Online Book Discussion

On April 27 the National Center for Children in Poverty at Columbia University will host an online discussion on the RSF book Cradle to Kindergarten: A New Plan to Combat Inequality with authors Ajay Chaudry (New York University), Taryn Morrissey (American University), Christina Weiland (University of Michigan), and Hirokazu Yoshikawa (New York University).

Cradle to Kindergarten diagnoses the obstacles to accessible early education in the U.S. and offers a comprehensive, evidence-based strategy to promote opportunity for all children. The authors show that while the period between birth and kindergarten is a critical time for child development, compared to other advanced economies, high-quality child care and preschool in the U.S. are scarce and prohibitively expensive for many middle class and most disadvantaged families. Cradle to Kindergarten outlines a program for addressing these inequalities that includes federal paid parental leave, an expansion of the child care tax credit, and universal, high-quality pre-school beginning at age three.

The authors will be joined in the discussion by Susan Oschorn (ECE Policy Works). The forum is free and open to the public with registration.
