Former RSF Trustee Larry M. Bartels Awarded National Medal of Science by President Joe Biden

Former RSF trustee Larry M. Bartels (Vanderbilt University) was awarded a National Medal of Science by President Joe Biden on January 3, 2025. The National Medal of Science is the highest recognition the nation can bestow on scientists and engineers. It is awarded to individuals “deserving of special recognition for their outstanding contributions to science in service to the United States.”  

Larry M. Bartels is University Distinguished Professor of Political Science and Law, May Werthan Shayne Chair of Public Policy and Social Science, and co-director of the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions at Vanderbilt University. His scholarly work focuses on American democracy, including public opinion, electoral politics, public policy, and representation. Bartels is a former RSF trustee, a contributing author to RSF volume Inequality and American Democracy, and a recipient of multiple RSF research grants.
