RSF author and former visiting scholar Jennifer Lee (Columbia University) has been elected president of the Eastern Sociological Society (ESS) for 2020-2021. A nonprofit organization that promotes excellence in sociological scholarship and instruction, the ESS publishes the Sociological Forum journal, hosts a four-day annual meeting in the spring, and sponsors numerous award competitions and other resources for sociologists.
Lee is currently Professor of Sociology at Columbia University. She was a visiting scholar at the foundation during the academic year of 2011-2012 and is the recipient of multiple grants from the foundation. She is most recently co-author with Min Zhou of The Asian American Achievement Paradox (2015), which has won five section awards from the American Sociological Association, and co-author with Frank Bean of The Diversity Paradox (2010). Her research has been featured in the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, the Seattle Times, CNN, the Guardian, NPR, and other outlets.
