RSF Journal Editor, Author, and Former Visiting Scholar William A. Darity, Jr. Awarded Inaugural William Spriggs Memorial Award

RSF journal editor, author, and former visiting scholar William A. Darity, Jr. (Duke University) was awarded the inaugural William Spriggs Memorial Award by the Association for Public Policy Analysis & Management. New in 2024, the award honors the life of William Spriggs, a pioneer in economics and labor policy. The William Spriggs Memorial Award recognizes “trailblazing academics and practitioners who have helped develop our understanding of racial discrimination in public policy, education, labor markets, academic disciplines, or society at-large.” Recipients of the award must have made sustained contributions in this area for at least 20 years.
William A. Darity, Jr. is the Samuel DuBois Cook Distinguished Professor of Public Policy, a professor of African and African American studies, and a professor of economics at Duke University. He is co-editor of the RSF: The Russell Sage Journal of the Social Sciences issue “Black Reparations: Insights from the Social Sciences,” a contributing author to RSF journal issues “Plessy v. Ferguson and the Legacy of ‘Separate but Equal’ After 125 Years,” “The Fiftieth Anniversary of the Kerner Commission Report,” and “Anti-poverty Policy Initiatives for the United States,” a contributing author to RSF volumes Prosperity for All?, An American Dilemma Revisited, and The Decline in Marriage Among African Americans, and a former RSF visiting scholar.
