RSF Trustees Kathryn Edin and Lawrence Katz Elected to National Academy of Sciences

On Tuesday, April 29, the National Academy of Sciences announced the election of 84 new members and 21 foreign associates from 15 countries in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research. Included in their new members were RSF trustees Kathryn Edin of Johns Hopkins University and Lawrence Katz of Harvard University.

Edin is the co-author of the Russell Sage Foundation book Making Ends Meet, and the co-editor of Unmarried Couples with Children. Her groundbreaking research on poverty and low-income families was recently profiled in Mother Jones. Katz, a former RSF Visiting Scholar, has contributed to the volume Generating Jobs and was recently cited in the New York Times on the decline of the American middle class.

Next month Edin will also join the board of directors of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, where RSF president Sheldon Danziger is a current fellow and board member.
