Video: Mary C. Waters on Integrating Immigrants

Sociologist Mary C. Waters (Harvard University) recently appeared on UCTV to discuss the integration of immigrants into the United States. Waters is a former chair of the Russell Sage Foundation’s board of trustees, co-author of the RSF book Inheriting the City, co-editor of the RSF books The New Race Question and Becoming New Yorkers, and a recipient of multiple research awards from the foundation.

Waters chaired a 2015 study conducted by the National Academy of Sciences’ Committee on immigrants in the U.S. Supported in part by the Russell Sage Foundation, the panel examined the factors that affect immigrants’ integration into society, including legal status, racial disparities in socioeconomic outcomes, and low naturalization rates. In the video above, Waters discusses some of the findings from the study.
