Webinar: RSF-Affiliated Scholars Discuss Improving Economic and Social Mobility in the U.S.

On Monday, September 22, 2025, seven RSF-affiliated scholars will discuss Economic and Social Mobility, a new consensus study from the Committee on Population and Committee on National Statistics, that provides a forward-looking framework for data, research, and policy initiatives to boost upward mobility and better fulfill promises of opportunity and advancement for all members of U.S. society. H. Luke Shaefer (University of Michigan), contributor to multiple RSF: The Russell Sage Foundation Journal of the Social Sciences issues, will serve as Chair of the panel and Florencia Torche (Princeton University), co-editor of RSF journal issue “The Disparate Effects of Disruptive Events on Children” and RSF grantee, will serve as Vice Chair. Panelists will include Lawrence M. Berger (University of Wisconsin–Madison), co-editor of RSF journal issue "Anti-poverty Policy Initiatives for the United States" and RSF research grant recipient, Stefanie A. DeLuca (Johns Hopkins University), co-author of RSF book Coming of Age in the Other America, RSF journal issue and RSF volume contributor, and recipient of multiple RSF research grants, David A. Grusky (Stanford University), co-editor of RSF journal issue “Building an Open Qualitative Science,” co-editor of RSF volumes The Great Recession and The Declining Significance of Gender?, RSF journal issue and RSF volume contributor, and recipient of multiple RSF research grants, Fabian T. Pfeffer (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München), co-editor of RSF journal issue “Wealth Inequality,” RSF journal issue and RSF volume contributor, Sheldon Danziger Pipeline Grants mentor, and recipient of multiple RSF research grants, and Patrick Sharkey (Princeton University), co-editor of RSF journal issue “Spatial Foundations of Inequality” and RSF journal issue and RSF volume contributor.

 Along with Kenneth R. Troske (University of Kentucky), Berger, DeLuca, Grusky, Pfeffer, Schaefer, Sharkey, and Torche will discuss the report’s findings, conclusions, and recommendations addressing issues such as early life and family, space and place, postsecondary education, wealth credit, and debt, and data infrastructure.
