Over the past decade, policies and public discourse about Venezuelan migrants have shifted from viewing them as “deserving and eligible” for legal status and rights to “undeserving and ineligible” and being targeted for deportation. Sociologist Deisy Del Real will examine how the shift from “deserving” to “undeserving” has impacted the legal, social, economic, and political incorporation of Venezuelan immigrants and asylum seekers. She will analyze changes in executive policy and political discourse and conduct interviews for her study.
