Summary

This grant is co-funded with the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
Federal and state governments have restricted and expanded immigrants’ eligibility for food assistance several times in the 1990s and 2000s. Despite the fact that U.S.-born children of foreign-born parents remained eligible amid these policy changes, it has been shown that losing parental eligibility reduces the participation of eligible U.S.-born children of immigrants by 50 percent. Public health scholar Rita Hamad and economist Chloe East will examine the long-term impacts of changes in SNAP eligibility criteria on the educational and occupational outcomes for eligible children of immigrants. They will analyze data from the American Community Survey for their study.
