The Russell Sage Foundation recently approved the following five new Presidential Authority grants. Grants were made in the foundation’s programs on Future of Work and Race, Ethnicity, and Immigration and in the foundation’s special initiatives on Decision Making and Human Behavior in Context and Immigration and Immigrant Integration. One grant was co-funded with the Carnegie Corporation. 

Following is a list of the recent Presidential Authority grants. Please click on each one for a brief description on the research project.

Decision Making and Human Behavior in Context

Jennifer Vonk, Oakland University, and Virgil Zeigler-Hill, Oakland University, will examine the associations between citizens’ worldviews and their perceptions of use of force by police – $34,274

Future of Work

Morgan Frank, University of Pittsburgh, and Sarah Bana, Stanford University, will assess university course syllabi to determine what skills are taught in universities and how they relate to career outcomes – $35,000

Jeremy Reynolds, Purdue University, will examine whether microtask gig work helped people avoid financial hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic – $29,135

Immigration and Immigrant Integration

Masha Krupenkin, Boston College, will examine the origins and consequences of anti-Black attitudes among foreign-born Americans – $20,275 – This grant is funded in part by the Carnegie Corporation

Race, Ethnicity, and Immigration

Rachel Nolan, Boston University, will examine the effects of deportations from the United States to Latin America on deportees and their communities, from 1954 to the present day – $46,377
