Child Control in Education Decisions: An Evaluation of Targeted Incentives to Learn in India
Abstract
In developing countries, a common approach to encourage education is to provide cash incentives to households conditional on their childrens enrollment, attendance or achievement in school. Little is known, however, about whether the identity of recipient either the parent or child can influence the effectiveness of these interventions. This study provides an empirical test of whether changing the recipient of the incentive affects outcomes.
