The Impact of Advanced Courses on Income Segregation and Economic Mobility
One of the main goals of education is economic mobility, and recent research highlights the role of cross-income friendships in fostering economic mobility. Doctoral student in education Farah Mallah will examine how the addition of advanced courses to a school’s curriculum affects low-income students’ classroom exposure to higher-income peers, as well as its impact on their long-term educational and employment outcomes. She will analyze administrative data from the Texas Research Center from 2004 to 2022 for her study.
