Viable Candidate Oversupply
The majority of African Americans voters live a in safe congressional district, that is, a congressional district that is electorally secure for one of the two major parties. Additionally, the majority of Black congressional candidates also come from safe districts. Previous research has shown that Black voters often vote for candidates of the same race, but little is known about how Black voters choose to vote when there are multiple Black candidates. Political scientist Kevin Sparrow will examine how Black voters decide to vote for candidates in congressional primary races with a large field of Black candidates. He will conduct two survey experiments for his study.
